What are Land Titles Fees?
Land Titles Fees are charged by the Alberta Government. The buyer is responsible to pay these fees in order to register a new name and a new mortgage on title. In Alberta, this is calculated at $50.00 plus $1 for each $5,000.00 of value of the property and, for the mortgage, $50.00 plus $1 for each $5,000.00 of the amount being registered. So, for example, if you are purchasing a property for $320,000.00 the fees would be $50 plus $64 = $114 to register your name. If you are borrowing $200,000.00 then you would be charged $50.00 plus $40.00 = $90.00 to register your mortgage on title. Therefore, your total Land Titles Fees would be $114.00 plus $90.00 which equals $204.00.
